If you'd told me 10 years ago I'd feel ashamed of losing weight, I wouldn't have believed you. I've been on a roller coaster of body shame and acceptance since I was 12, which, at times, led to bouts of disordered eating. My primary doctor suggested I try a medical weight loss program, which involves seeing a nutritionist and weight loss doctor monthly, as well as prescription weight loss drugs. I've been scared because of the hurtful commentary and speculation I see online about others losing weight by taking medication. However, I am conscience-stricken for taking weight loss medicine when all I am trying to do is improve my health.

Patients taking Novo Nordisk 's obesity drug Wegovy maintained an average of 10% weight loss for up to four years, according to a new analysis published Tuesday from the longest clinical trial to date on the treatment. The highly popular drug also reduced the risk of heart disease regardless of a patient's weight, a second analysis on the same trial found. Neither Novo Nordisk or Eli Lilly , which has its own weight loss drug, have been able to produce enough supply to meet the insatiable demand for their treatments. The SELECT trial, which included more than 17,000 patients from over 40 countries, tested Wegovy for its cardiovascular benefits.

Popoola’s most recent sculpture is a 12-foot-tall, 882-pound piece depicting the decorated head and neck of an African woman, inspired by his wife. “The work showcases the beauty of Black women all over the world,” Popoola said of the piece, which he began in 2022. “The amount of support shown by women all over the world made me shed tears of joy in my studio.
